no ink required

Playing with your stamps (without actually stamping)
Here's what you will need ...

serviettes (napkins) or squares of (good quality) toilet paper
pva glue (el cheapo is fine), water
bristle brush (stiff bristles not soft and not your best one either)
rubber stamp, not too finely detailed
small container to mix your glue and water in

There are a few variations on how to proceed ... this is what I have done here ...
first gently wet some tissues and place on top of your stamp, gently pushing down into the crevices with the brush (use an up and down, sort of pouncing method,
like you would for dry stencilling),
just use water for the first few layers, and then mix some pva with the water (maybe half and half) and keep putting down more layers. Be sure to work the tissue into the stamp pattern.

The above pic is right at the beginning of the process
you get the idea now, don't you?
just build up a thickness that you are happy with ... no rules
you can take it over the edges and trim later (if you like) and
when quite dry, you can rewet the edges only and then pull bits off (like I have done)
and then you can colour it any way you like

I have sprayed it with some homemade pretend glimmermist.

BTW, I did not invent this technique.
It's been done before.
Just thought you might like to see what I have made of it.

  1. That is fantastic. Now I am such a visual learner that I really needed to see how you do it before I even attempt. You would not believe what I was going to do. Love the effect.

  2. I'm sorry but I'm not such a visual learner as Sandra - I love this effect but can't actuallly understand what you are doing! Could you add some written instructions too please? It's really pretty!

  3. Oh Rosa, you are so kind to take the trouble to add the written instructions! This is really effective and looks gorgeous! Must try it! Thanks for sharing, and for your comment on my blog.

  5. Thank you for coming to my blog and giving me an answer! :)
I will try this! It gives a beautiful structure to a canvas or an ATC.

    Have a nice week!
