WOYWW a Christmas card or two

I know, it's time for a last-minute Christmas card panic. Even though I always seem to have a few left over from previous years the urge to make new ones is unavoidable. Anyway, as there's plenty of those leftovers, a panic is really not necessary. So I won't (panic, that is).

Not terribly interesting at the moment, but I think it will be OK :)
That red stuff on the cards is actually layers of (very thin) tulle. And very fiddly. Remind me not to buy more!

I was pretty certain nothing would be happening today. I was wrong, see above. So, yesterday, I thought I might just show you More Stuff I Have Bought and a book I am reading ...

I think I've mentioned before, the only local craft shop usually has a Sale section (nothing all that exciting) but sometimes I get an email saying that everything in the Sale section is half price. So, that's worth a visit, right?  OK, what did I find ... packets of paper (gold/brown patterned) and card (crimson with a nice texture line) both $2.50 ea, and the Spellbinders die was $10! (Worth it just for the border die, I think.) The Radiant pearls were 5 for $20, so that's OK too!  And that's the latest Craft Stamper, from the newsagent ... if I could get my act together and subscribe, I would probably have a more recent issue :)  And there's a library book I'm ploughing through. It's really nice, but I'm just skimming, because it is not really relevant to water soluble pencils, only classic coloured pencils. And behind is a class supply list for Wanderlust 2016, an online course which I have signed up for next year. Needless to say I have almost everything on that list :)

Here's a quick tale of how things snowball. While I was taking that pic, I pushed things out of the way, to make it look purrrty ... my watch fell on the floor and stopped immediately (you know, just like at the scene of the crime so the detective knows the exact time the crime was committed). So I took it to the watch repairer at the shops, he said come back in ten minutes, so I went to browse in Lincraft (fabric, art, craft, homewares - not a "real" craft shop, just basic stuff) and saw that red tulle (top photo) and thought "easy Christmas cards"! Actually I thought I was having a "light bulb moment". Maybe not. But I do know I wouldn't have started any new cards if I hadn't bought it.

Hope to join in later with Julia at her Stamping Ground so maybe I will see you then.

BTW my watch is ok. I don't know what they did, but it's going again now. I think it was the watch world's equivalent of the IT guy's first attempt to fix your computer, "Have you tried turning it off and on again?"

  1. I can't believe you are doing all that and with only one hand. Good buy at the local shop I think the die alone was worth the trip. I haven't subscribed to wunderlast as yet as I am still doing the w/c workshop and I struggle to get the weekly class done. One tutorial will say 2 hours and I am still at it one week later!! Take care of the hand no more grating :(

  2. That was serendipity...the watch dropping started the necessary sequence for you to end up with the cards!! We call it Tea Bag Syndrome in our house......you know....you make a cuppa, need to put the tea bag in the kitchen bin but that's full so you have to empty it but the bin outside is full so that need sorting.....you get the drift!! Everything has a knock on effect. Tea Bag Syndrome!!
What on earth have you done to your hand? (Referencing Sandra's comment)

  6. Oh you bought some nice goodies! I like the look of that book Colored Pencil Painting Bible. I looked on the internet and they are offering a free download. But when I clicked, they want to know all my details including my credit card details, so i have to think hard about that....
    Have a good week,

  7. I think what you described about the watch and the Christmas cards is the butterfly effect! It will be nice to see your card when they are ready. And who knows, they might even change somebody's life for the better, which will be the result of you dropping that watch! I'm doing Wanderlust too! I'll try to find you in the community! It will be so much fun! Happy WOYWW! zsuzsa #35

  9. That sounds just like me and every crafter I know! Any excuse to wander into a craft store and a broken watch with 10 minutes to spare is a legitemate reason in my book!
    Happy WOYWW!

  10. I'm loving the lead up to the tulle, and the note to remind you not to buy more...worth it though...a spellbinder set for 10 bucks!! I'm done with cards, but there's plenty of other things that seem to have next Friday as a deadline!

  11. Had to laugh because I'm still making my cards. I think it's panic time for me. I found two from last year, but I probably sent them to the people I am sending to this year.

Loved the story about the watch. Did you think to turn it on? Loved it! Glad it's well, too. Happy belated WOYWW from #1.

  12. Ooh I love your new stash and so great that it was a bargain too! I can't walk past art and craft stuff without buying something, and I think that red tulle would have come home with me too if I'd seen it! Enjoy your card making and thanks for stopping by mine earlier,

  13. If you did use coloured pencils would that book be of use? Interested to know as I have a lovely set of coloured pencils.
The tulle looks interesting, it will be worth the effort I am sure.

  14. Hi RosA Love the look of that die set - lots you can do with that! You've certainly been having fun. As to the boxes - the lady I made them for was going to put in a few fairtrade sweets and chocs. In the ones I did for myself I put handmade soaps - handmade by grandie No4!! She loves making soap, and is an incredibly shy little girl - so I presented her with a business opportunity and got her to work out her price, her profit, etc and she was delighted to do them for me. So much so, that when her school gave all of Year 6 £1 each and said "go use it and grow it", she got together with her pals and they made some marshmallow hedgehogs (?) something to do with Cloudy with a chance of meatballs so I am reliably informed - and they made LOADS of profit for the school Christmas Fair. Hm - she may be shy, but she is a little entrepreneur in the making!!!
    Take care. God bless.
